Two Firefighters Injured in Major Residential Fire on San Antonio's East Side
Two members of the San Antonio Fire Department were hospitalized on Friday evening following a severe house fire that erupted on Nolan Street near North Cherry Street in San Antonio's East Side, according to officials.
The blaze was reported shortly after 5 p.m., prompting a response from six fire units and a total of 42 firefighters, SAFD said. Crews initially entered the home, aiming to conduct a search and an aggressive effort to control the flames. However, officials stated they shifted tactics as strong winds worsened the fire’s intensity.
During the operation, a ceiling collapse occurred inside the structure, injuring two firefighters. Authorities have not released details on the extent of their injuries, and their current condition remains unknown.
Neighbors indicated the house was previously occupied by a 99-year-old woman, though subsequent reports suggested she had recently moved to an assisted living facility. The fire department confirmed there were no residents inside the home when the incident occurred. No additional injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Officials have classified the house as a total loss. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze, and the situation remains under review as authorities assess the aftermath and continue their investigation.
