One Dead, Six Injured in Mass Shooting at Union, New Jersey Chick-fil-A

One person was shot and killed and six others were wounded in a mass shooting at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union, New Jersey on Saturday night, according to local authorities.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office stated the attack occurred around 9 p.m. and does not appear to have been a random act. A press release issued Sunday said that while the gunman remains at large, “there is no immediate ongoing threat to the general public.” The conditions of the injured are not believed to be life-threatening, officials confirmed.

Witness accounts described a chaotic scene. A ride share driver who was arriving at the Chick-fil-A told local media that he heard more than seven shots fired in quick succession near the restaurant.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill publicly expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for those hurt in the shooting. She also encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.

A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A declined to comment, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The case is currently under the purview of the Homicide Task Force at the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, which is urging members of the public who may have knowledge about the shooting to come forward.

No arrests have been announced as of Sunday, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
