Child Dies in Suspected Dog Attack in Redcar, North Yorkshire
A child died on Thursday afternoon in Dormanstown, Redcar, North Yorkshire, after a suspected dog attack at a private residence, police confirmed.
Emergency services responded to Hardale Drive shortly before 1:30 p.m. following reports of concern for a child. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found the child had died, with police stating the fatality is believed to have been caused by a dog bite.
Armed police shot and killed one dog in the street and seized another from the property, authorities said. Crime scene investigators attended the address, and the area was cordoned off as inquiries began.
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, and a duty officer. A spokesperson confirmed that one patient was taken to hospital for additional treatment, though no further information on their condition was given.
District Commander Emily Harrison extended condolences to the family and described the situation as "distressing and tragic." She added that an investigation into the child’s death is underway, and urged anyone with information or concerns to contact officers at the scene.
This incident comes amid a rise in reported dog attacks across the UK. Authorities have not released the identity of the child. No further arrests or details on the seized dogs have been made public as the investigation continues.
