Two More Arrested After Fatal Shooting of 14-Year-Old in Woolwich, London

Police have arrested two additional suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor on Lord Warwick Street in Woolwich, southeast London, which occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody as the investigation progresses. In a related development, a 46-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and is being held pending further enquiries.

Officers were called to the scene near Woolwich Ferry and Woolwich Dockyard train station at approximately 3:40pm on Thursday. Eghosa Ogbebor was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is currently receiving support from specialist officers.

Three individuals—a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old man—who were previously arrested on Friday in relation to the incident have since been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, stated that detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Eghosa’s death. She noted that the Woolwich community may have seen increased police presence in the area as arrests were made, and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist police.

London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan expressed condolences to the boy’s family and the Woolwich community, emphasizing that there is “absolutely no place” for such violence in the city.

The shooting marks the second fatal incident involving a firearm in London within a week, following the killing of 26-year-old Nahom Medhanie near Euston station the previous Saturday.

The investigation into Eghosa Ogbebor’s death is ongoing, with police appealing for witnesses and information. Additional police patrols remain in the Woolwich area as enquiries continue.
