Families Gather for Annual Easter Eggstravaganza in East Garfield Park
Hundreds of children and their families celebrated Easter on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in East Garfield Park, joining the 13th annual “Easter Eggstravaganza” hosted by Harvest Worship Center Ministries at Altgeld Park Hope Field.
The event saw kids of all ages, dressed in colorful outfits, racing across the field at 515 S. Washtenaw Ave. to hunt for candy-filled plastic eggs. According to organizers, parishioners from the church prepared thousands of brightly colored eggs for participants to find.
Beyond the egg hunt, families enjoyed a variety of activities including food, games, music, face painting, and interactions with a costumed Easter Bunny, bringing excitement to the day for children like Zariah Ramirez, 5, Jashante Wallace, 4, and Willow Marshall, 6, among others.
Organizers emphasized the event’s goal of fostering a sense of community and offering a safe, festive space for neighborhood families to come together and celebrate. The Eggstravaganza has become an annual tradition for many living in East Garfield Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
Saturday's festivities concluded without reports of any incidents, as families departed with baskets full of treats and memories of the day. Organizers confirmed plans to continue the tradition in future years.
