Person Fatally Struck by Metra Train Near Geneva Station Causes Major Delays

A person was struck and killed by an inbound Metra train near the Geneva station in the west suburbs early Thursday morning, according to Metra officials.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. when Union Pacific West train No. 18 hit the individual near 328 Crescent Place. Emergency responders pronounced the person dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the age or gender of the deceased.

Train service in both directions was halted until 7:30 a.m., with delays reported between 15 and 90 minutes for impacted commuters, Metra said. The Geneva station is a key stop in the commuter network connecting Chicago and its western suburbs, and the disruption caused significant travel challenges during the morning rush hour.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and officials have not disclosed additional details. All train service has since resumed.
