Kennedy Expressway crash at Kostner Avenue blocks multiple lanes in Chicago
At about 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a Kennedy Expressway crash on Chicago’s Northwest Side closed several lanes after a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle collided near Kostner Avenue at the split with the Edens Expressway, authorities reported.
The Illinois State Police said troopers were dispatched to the two-vehicle collision. Large sections of sheet metal separated from the semi and scattered across both expressways, leaving the left three lanes of the Kennedy blocked and the three right-hand lanes on the Edens side obstructed by heavy debris. One person was taken to a nearby hospital; officials have not released that individual’s condition.
State police warned of extended delays and urged drivers to seek alternate routes while the scene is managed. At the time of the report, officers were handling traffic control around the immediate area of Kostner Avenue and the Edens split; further information on lane reopenings and the status of the hospitalized person was expected from authorities. Motorists were advised to monitor traffic updates before traveling through the northwest corridor of Chicago during the morning commute.
