NTSB Recovers Recorders After Plane-Fire Truck Collision at LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport was the site of a collision between a commercial aircraft and a ground vehicle that left multiple people injured, officials said on March 23, 2026. The National Transportation Safety Board has taken custody of the aircraft’s cockpit voice and flight data recorders as part of an active investigation into the incident.

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy confirmed investigators recovered both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder from the aircraft. She said a safety walkthrough was completed before examiners began work on the wreckage to ensure personnel safety. Earlier reporting identified the aircraft as an Air Canada plane and indicated at least four people sustained injuries when the airplane struck a vehicle on the tarmac.

Investigators will analyze the recovered recorders and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and contributing factors. The NTSB’s steps at the scene underline the agency’s standard procedures for securing and documenting wreckage prior to technical examination. Local authorities and airport operators continue to coordinate with federal investigators as the probe proceeds.
