Tamworth wedding venue collapse injures six; state fire marshal launches investigation
A Tamworth wedding venue collapse at the Preserve at Chocorua on Saturday afternoon resulted in six people being taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said on March 22, 2026. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office reported the structural failure occurred at about 4:30 p.m. while a wedding party was in the building.
First-responder audio and on-scene reports indicated approximately 140 to 145 guests were present when roughly half of the floor gave way and fell into the basement. Responders described carefully pulling people from the structure and requested additional personnel to assist witnesses and the injured. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office confirmed there were no fatalities and that six people were transported to area hospitals. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said multiple agencies were responding but declined further comment that night. Attempts to reach the venue and MaineHealth Memorial Hospital were not answered.
The state fire marshal has dispatched investigators and will lead the probe into the collapse. Tamworth, a town of about 2,800 residents located roughly 115 miles north of Concord, was the center of rescue operations. Authorities said the investigation remains active and provided no determination of cause as of March 22, 2026.
