Royer Perez-Jimenez Dies at Glades County Detention Center, ICE Confirms

Royer Perez-Jimenez, a 19-year-old Mexican national, was found dead at the Glades County Detention Center in Moore Haven, Florida, a development reported March 19, 2026. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the detainee was discovered unconscious early Monday and subsequently pronounced unresponsive by medical personnel.

ICE officials said an officer at the facility located Perez-Jimenez at 2:34 a.m.; staff immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation before two medical professionals arrived and determined he had no pulse. Moore Haven Fire Rescue units arrived minutes later and provided life-sustaining interventions, according to the agency.

ICE stated the death is believed to be a suicide, although the official cause remains under investigation. Agency records indicate Perez-Jimenez was medically screened upon arrival at the detention center in late February and answered "no" to all suicide screening questions. He was arrested by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 22 on charges of felony fraud for impersonation and misdemeanor resisting an officer, placed on an immigration detainer the same day, taken into ICE custody on Feb. 21 and transferred to Glades County on Feb. 26.

ICE said Perez-Jimenez first entered the United States on Feb. 19, 2022, was located by the U.S. Border Patrol and granted a voluntary return that day, later reentering on an unknown date. Per agency protocol, the Department of Homeland Security, DHS Office of Inspector General and ICE Office of Professional Responsibility were notified through the Integrity Coordination Center; the Mexican consulate and the detainee's next of kin were also informed.
