Jonathan Owens Signs One-Year Deal with Indianapolis Colts After Two Seasons with Chicago Bears

Jonathan Owens, the safety and husband of Olympic gymnastics legend Simone Biles, is departing the Chicago Bears after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to a source confirmed on Friday.

Owens spent two seasons in Chicago, appearing as a starter in five games during the 2024 campaign. He established himself primarily as a special teams contributor, logging snaps on 55% of kicking downs in 2024 and 58% in 2025. His departure adds to what is shaping up to be a significant overhaul of the Bears' safety unit, following the exits of starters Kevin Byard, who agreed to join the New England Patriots, and Jaquan Brisker, who is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Beyond his contributions on the field, Owens gained widespread recognition for his unwavering support of Biles throughout her historic athletic career. During the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, the Bears granted him a brief absence from training camp so he could attend and watch his wife compete. Biles went on to cement her legacy as the most decorated American gymnast in history, now holding 11 Olympic medals. The couple also attended the 2025 Winter Olympics together as spectators. Owens described witnessing her achievements as an extraordinary personal experience, expressing immense pride in everything she has accomplished. The NFL's new league year officially opened Wednesday, though players had already begun agreeing to terms with teams starting Monday.
