Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing Brother in Central Phoenix Apartment

Fatal Stabbing Reported Late Sunday in Central Phoenix

On Sunday, shortly before midnight, Phoenix police responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment near 17th Street and Cambridge Avenue, just south of Thomas Road in central Phoenix.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Ali-Ondre Hampton called 911 and stated that he had stabbed his brother, 30-year-old Timotheus Hampton. Investigators say Ali-Ondre was attempting to apply pressure to Timotheus’ wound while authorities were on their way to the apartment.

Incident Stemming from Argument Over Money

Court documents state that Ali-Ondre told authorities he was sitting on a couch when Timotheus entered the apartment, was loud, played music at a high volume, and accused Ali-Ondre of taking five dollars. Ali-Ondre said he told his brother to leave him alone, and that Timotheus then became confrontational.

The argument escalated into a physical fight. According to investigators, Ali-Ondre reported that Timotheus put him in a chokehold. Investigators say Ali-Ondre broke free, grabbed an 8-inch kitchen knife, and told his brother that if he touched him again, he would stab him. When Timotheus approached him, Ali-Ondre stabbed him once in the abdomen.

Victim’s Death and Evidence Recovered

Officers arriving at the apartment found Timotheus with a single stab wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died. Investigators say they found an 8-inch kitchen knife underneath Timotheus’ body at the scene.

Police state that Ali-Ondre initially told them he did not know if his brother was going to hurt him and that he was angry and not thinking clearly at the time of the stabbing. Investigators say he later told them he believed his brother would hurt him.

Witness Accounts from Inside the Apartment

Authorities interviewed a witness who was in a bedroom at the apartment during the incident. That witness said he heard the brothers arguing over money but did not see the stabbing. According to police, the witness told the brothers to take the argument outside and recalled hearing Ali-Ondre say something like, “Get off me.”

A second witness told investigators he had been invited over to the apartment and that Ali-Ondre had been drinking that night. This witness said he was awakened by Ali-Ondre, who told him he had stabbed his brother. Both witnesses told police they had never previously seen the two brothers fight.

Suspect’s Statements and Charges

During an interview with police, investigators say Ali-Ondre admitted he was struggling with drug addiction and experiencing withdrawals. According to police, he began crying when he was informed that his brother had died.

Authorities report that Ali-Ondre Hampton has been booked on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of his brother at the central Phoenix apartment.
