Juvenile Charged Following Algonquin Crash Into Home

A juvenile driver was charged after a vehicle crashed into a home and the driver left the scene in Algonquin, Illinois, on Friday night.

Incident Near Boyer Road and Eineke Boulevard

According to Algonquin police, the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Boyer Road and Eineke Boulevard. Officers and members of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to the home following the incident.

Vehicle Leaves Road and Strikes Occupied Home

Authorities determined that the car left the roadway and hit a home where residents were present at the time. The collision resulted in injuries to one of the residents and to a juvenile passenger who was inside the vehicle.

Two People Injured With Non-Life-Threatening Conditions

Police stated that one resident of the home was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A juvenile passenger from the car was also taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Driver Flees Scene, Later Turned In by Parent

The driver, described only as a juvenile, left the scene on foot before officers arrived. Police reported that the juvenile was later turned in by a parent and taken into custody.

Multiple Traffic-Related Charges Filed

The juvenile driver was charged with reckless driving, failure to remain at the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident, driving without ever having been issued a driver's license, speeding 26–34 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, driving too fast for conditions, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and disobeying a stop sign.

Police Withhold Identifying Information

Algonquin police stated that, due to the age of the individual involved, no additional identifying information about the juvenile will be released.

Statement on Safe and Lawful Driving

Algonquin Police Chief Dennis Walker said the Algonquin Police Department continues to emphasize the importance of safe and lawful driving, particularly for newer drivers. He stated that families and guardians play an important role in helping young drivers understand the responsibilities associated with operating a vehicle.
