Arrest Made in Arlington Highway Shooting

The Arlington Police Department announced that a U.S. Marshals task force arrested 29-year-old Malik Miner in Midlothian on Wednesday in connection with a shooting on a highway in Arlington, Texas, that resulted in the death of 29-year-old Bre'Asia Johnson and her unborn child.

Authorities stated that Miner is charged with one count of capital murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of deadly conduct. As of Thursday morning, Miner was in custody at the Arlington jail.

Details of the November 12 Incident

Police reported that the shooting occurred on November 12 while Johnson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Bowman Springs Road in Arlington. According to investigators, Miner opened fire on the vehicle during the incident.

Johnson’s 28-year-old boyfriend was driving the vehicle at the time and was also struck by gunfire. Police said he managed to pull off the highway to a nearby gas station and call 911. Responding officers found Johnson unresponsive. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver was hospitalized with injuries.

Additional Victims and Vehicle Damage

Two children were inside the vehicle during the shooting. Police reported that the children were not seriously injured. A second, unrelated vehicle traveling in the area was also hit by gunfire, but no one inside that vehicle was hurt.

Investigative Findings and Relationship Details

Arlington police stated that detectives learned during their investigation that Miner and Johnson had previously been in a romantic relationship and that Miner was in a feud with Johnson’s current boyfriend. Detectives obtained a search warrant and examined Miner’s cell phone.

According to police, the phone records showed prior communications between Miner and Johnson’s boyfriend. Investigators said the records placed Miner at the scene of the shooting and indicated that his movements closely matched Johnson’s movements in the minutes before the attack, which police stated showed that Miner was following the victims’ vehicle.
