On Monday in Fresno County, a 29-year-old man died after being crushed while removing an oil rig. Officials identified the victim as Alfredo Oronia of Arvin, California. The incident occurred near Mt. Whitney and Polk Avenues in Riverdale at around 10:45 a.m.

A 911 call reported an injured man at the location. Deputies arrived and found Oronia deceased from major injuries he suffered during the incident. No additional injuries were reported at the scene.

Incident Details

Deputies stated that Oronia was working as part of a company assigned to remove an oil rig from the property. During the removal process, a large piece of steel from the rig swung downward and crushed him. Responders confirmed that the impact caused the fatal injuries.

Authorities have not released the name of the company involved. Officials did not provide further information regarding the equipment or materials used during the operation. No other circumstances about the event were disclosed.

Investigation Underway

Cal/OSHA was notified following the fatal accident. The agency will conduct an investigation into the workplace death in Riverdale. Investigators have not released any preliminary findings.
