Memphis Woman Charged in Husband’s Stabbing Death

Man Found Stabbed After Vehicle Crash in Cordova

On Saturday night in Cordova, Tennessee, sheriff’s deputies responded at 9:53 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash at Macon Road and Houston Levee Road. Deputies found a Chevrolet Colorado in a ditch with Derrick Curtis as the sole occupant and driver. Authorities said he was bleeding severely, and a large pool of blood was located on the driver’s side floorboard.

Deputies reported that the amount of blood did not match the minor damage to the vehicle. Paramedics were told by Derrick Curtis that his wife had stabbed him. First responders found three stab wounds on his left leg.

Victim Pronounced Dead at Hospital

Emergency crews transported Derrick Curtis to Regional One Hospital. Authorities confirmed that he was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m. following the Cordova crash and reported stabbing. Detectives searching the vehicle found several items belonging to his wife, including her purse, work ID, luggage, and phone.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

On Sunday, detectives located 56-year-old Sheila Curtis. She was brought to the investigations bureau for questioning. Officials said she provided a partial statement indicating she and her husband had been in a fight in the car while traveling home from a funeral in Bolivar.

Sheila Curtis stated that her husband dropped her off before the crash occurred. She declined to give further details about the fight. Detectives noted that records showed a history of domestic violence involving the couple.

Additional Witness Information

A family member told investigators he picked up Sheila and her mother about two miles south of the crash site at Houston Levee Road and Walnut Grove Road. He said Sheila’s mother told him the couple had argued, which was why they needed a ride home. Investigators documented this information as part of the case.

Charges and Bond

Authorities charged Sheila Curtis with second-degree murder in connection with her husband’s death. She was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
