Two members of the Tennessee National Guard shot and killed a 20-year-old man during a pursuit in downtown Memphis early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when the soldiers, part of a federal task force, responded to reports of gunfire and began chasing an armed suspect. Authorities reported that the man, identified as Tyrin Johnson, turned toward the guardsmen with a weapon, prompting them to open fire.

Johnson died at the scene despite attempts at first aid by National Guard medical specialists. His cousin, Terracle Nelson, stated that family members were informed he had been shot twice in the chest. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident. Mayor Paul Young described the shooting as an 'unfortunate incident' and is awaiting the results of the TBI investigation before making further comments.
