Three Young Suspects Charged in Fatal Jacksonville Attack
Victim Found Severely Beaten in Downtown Jacksonville
Three young suspects have been charged with murder after a 64-year-old man was fatally beaten in downtown Jacksonville. District 1 patrol officers responded on October 19, 2025, to an aggravated battery and found the victim, identified as Roger Borkum, severely injured at the scene. Officers transported Borkum to a local hospital, where he died four days later.
A witness who observed the attack provided detailed descriptions of the suspects. Police used this information to locate the three individuals within hours. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the information played a central role in quickly identifying those involved.
Suspects Identified and Arrested
JSO Homicide Unit detectives and the State Attorney’s Office conducted a joint investigation that identified the suspects as 13-year-old Justin Curry, 16-year-old Robert Pope, and 19-year-old Marcavion Lacey. Investigators confirmed that Curry was 12 years old on the night of the attack.
Pope and Lacey were arrested shortly after Borkum’s death. Authorities continued to investigate Curry’s involvement in the case following the initial arrests.
Grand Jury Indictment and Charges
On November 20, 2025, a Duval County grand jury indicted Curry on murder charges. JSO confirmed that all three suspects now face the same charge related to the fatal assault on Borkum. Police have not released additional investigative details beyond the arrests and indictment.
Authorities said the case remains active as legal proceedings move forward. Further updates are expected as the prosecution advances.
