Rain and Mountain Snow Spread Across New Mexico on Nov. 20, 2025
Rain and mountain snow expanded across New Mexico on the morning of November 20, 2025, as a Pacific storm moved through the region. The system brought steady rainfall, mountain snow, and slick road conditions across multiple parts of the state.
Storm Brings Widespread Rainfall
Rain was steady for several hours in Santa Fe as moisture continued to push across New Mexico. Additional showers were reported around Cuba, Los Alamos, and Silver City. Parts of southern New Mexico experienced a brief lull, but showers continued in surrounding areas.
Thunderstorms developed near Clovis and locations south toward Hobbs, producing frequent lightning. Forecasters noted that a lingering severe weather threat could not be ruled out in that region during the morning hours.
Snowfall in Northern Mountain Areas
Snow fell in the northern mountain ranges, including Taos, during the early morning. Snow was expected to continue in the higher elevations into the early afternoon. Wet and slick road conditions were reported, although road temperatures remained above freezing across most of the state, reducing the risk of ice accumulation.
A winter weather advisory was in effect for the northern mountains of New Mexico, including areas near Chama and the San Juan Mountains. The advisory covered elevations above 8,500 feet, where snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches were possible. Higher peaks could receive up to 10 inches.
Forecast for Albuquerque and Central New Mexico
Rain chances in Albuquerque remained elevated through the morning, with several rounds of rainfall expected through Thursday morning. Showers and thunderstorms were forecast to continue into the early afternoon before becoming more scattered.
Temperatures in Albuquerque were expected to reach around 50 degrees, following morning readings in the 40s. Rain was forecast to move out of the Albuquerque area by Thursday afternoon and evening. After 2 to 3 p.m., the primary area of precipitation was expected to shift north of the city.
