Albuquerque Man Sentenced for Firing at Deputy on New Mexico Interstate
Albuquerque Man Receives Six-Year Sentence
An Albuquerque man, Ryan Dunn, was sentenced to six years in the New Mexico Corrections Department after firing multiple gunshots at a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office deputy in New Mexico. The sentence was imposed following his conviction for aggravated assault on a police officer.
Incident on Interstate 40 and Interstate 25
The incident occurred in May 2021 when a BCSO officer observed Ryan Dunn speeding on Interstate 40 near Rio Grande in New Mexico. After the deputy noticed the speeding vehicle, Dunn followed the deputy's vehicle, pulled in front of it, and attempted to get the deputy to stop him. In response, the deputy called for backup.
Dunn then followed the deputy onto Interstate 25. He stopped his vehicle on the interstate and fired multiple gunshots at the deputy. After firing at the deputy, Dunn abandoned his vehicle on the roadway and fled the area, traveling to Nevada.
Jury Conviction in Bernalillo County
Last month, a Bernalillo County jury found Ryan Dunn guilty of aggravated assault on a police officer in connection with the Interstate 40 and Interstate 25 incident. The conviction led to the six-year sentence to be served in the New Mexico Corrections Department.
Criminal Conduct and Sentencing in Nevada
After fleeing New Mexico, Ryan Dunn committed multiple armed robberies in Nevada. For those crimes, he was sentenced in Nevada to more than 30 years in prison. The Nevada sentence relates to the armed robberies he committed while there.
Consecutive Prison Terms in Two States
Ryan Dunn will first serve his prison sentence of more than 30 years in Nevada for multiple armed robberies. After completing that sentence, he will be returned to New Mexico to serve his six-year sentence in the New Mexico Corrections Department for aggravated assault on a police officer arising from the 2021 interstate shooting incident near Rio Grande in Albuquerque.
