Four Arrested After Mississippi Mass Shooting That Killed Six

Four people have been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that left six people dead and more than a dozen injured in Leland, Mississippi, authorities announced on Monday.

According to the FBI’s Jackson Field Office, Teviyon L. Powell, 29; William Bryant, 29; and Morgan Lattimore, 25, have been charged with capital murder, while Latoya A. Powell, 44, faces a charge of attempted murder. Officials said the shooting occurred Friday night during homecoming celebrations in downtown Leland, shortly after a local high school football game.

The FBI stated that the violence appeared to have been sparked by a disagreement among several individuals, though investigators have not provided a specific motive. Authorities also confirmed that additional arrests are pending as the investigation continues.

Prior to the arrests, the FBI had sought public assistance in identifying four individuals seen in surveillance footage from the scene. The agency released photos of one woman and three men described as “unknown suspects.”

Local witnesses described the aftermath of the shooting, with several victims lying on the street and blood visible on the pavement. Four victims died at the scene, and others were transported to nearby hospitals.

The Leland shooting was the 14th mass killing in the United States in 2025, according to the Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database.

In separate incidents across Mississippi over the same weekend, two people were killed in Heidelberg, and one person died in a shooting at Alcorn State University in Claiborne County. A juvenile was also injured in Jackson during homecoming festivities at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Authorities continue to investigate the series of shootings that took place across the state during homecoming weekend.
