Three Officers Killed, Suspect Dead in Pennsylvania Shooting
Three law enforcement officers were killed and two others critically injured after a shooting in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, September 17, 2025, as officers attempted to serve a warrant.
Shooting in North Codorus Township
The shooting unfolded on Haar Road in North Codorus Township, a rural community in York County. Police officials said the suspect opened fire as officers arrived at the scene. Investigators believe the suspect was lying in wait.
Warrant and Suspect’s Death
Law enforcement officials were seeking to arrest the suspect on charges of stalking and criminal trespass. During the confrontation, police returned fire and fatally shot the suspect. Emergency responders, including a medevac helicopter, police vehicles, ambulances, and fire trucks, were dispatched to the location.
State and Federal Response
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed condolences and called on the public to support the families of the fallen and injured officers. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday described the incident as an “absolute tragedy,” noting the impact in York County where he previously worked as a prosecutor.
Federal authorities, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are assisting in the investigation. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemned the violence against law enforcement and confirmed federal support for Pennsylvania officials.
Broader Concerns on Gun Violence
Governor Shapiro also addressed broader concerns about gun violence, stating that communities need more support to prevent individuals from turning to weapons during disputes.
According to FBI data, 37 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in 2025 so far. In 2024, 64 officer deaths were linked to criminal acts nationwide.
