Swiss Air Lines Flight Aborts Takeoff After Engine Flames at Boston Logan Airport
A Swiss Air Lines flight aborted its takeoff at Boston Logan International Airport on Tuesday evening after flames were seen coming from one of its engines. The incident occurred at approximately 6:25 p.m. local time on September 16, 2025.
Engine Flames Reported During Takeoff
The flight, identified as SWISS Flight 55, was preparing for departure when video footage captured flames appearing to shoot out of the aircraft’s right engine as the plane accelerated down the runway. Witnesses also photographed fire trucks approaching the aircraft immediately after the aborted takeoff.
FAA Confirms Incident
In an official statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the crew of SWISS Flight 55 stopped their takeoff due to engine issues. The FAA noted that, as a precaution, some arrivals to the airport were briefly paused while the aircraft remained on the runway.
Plane Taxied Off Safely
After halting the takeoff, the aircraft taxied safely off the runway. Emergency response vehicles were on standby, but there were no reports of further complications. The FAA stated it will investigate the cause of the engine malfunction and subsequent aborted takeoff.
The incident temporarily disrupted airport operations, but flight schedules later resumed after the precautionary pause. Swiss Air Lines and the FAA have not released additional details about the status of the flight or its passengers.
The investigation will focus on determining the source of the reported engine flames and ensuring the safety of future operations.
