San Antonio Man Pleads Guilty After Threatening Former President Trump on Facebook

Guilty Plea in High-Profile Threat Case

A San Antonio man has pleaded guilty to making violent threats against former President Donald Trump in a Facebook post. The plea was entered in federal court, leaving him facing serious penalties that could include years in prison and a substantial fine.

The Facebook Post that Triggered Arrest

According to court documents, Robert Herrera, 52, posted a comment on July 10 connected to an article about Trump’s planned visit to the Texas Hill Country. In his post, Herrera wrote, “I won’t miss,” alongside a photograph showing Trump surrounded by Secret Service agents after the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

His post quickly drew responses online. Another Facebook user replied, warning, “You won’t get the chance to, I promise.”

Herrera allegedly escalated the exchange with another post that read, “I’ll just come for you,” attaching a photo of an assault rifle and loaded magazines.

Arrest and Criminal Charges Filed

On July 11, Herrera was taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. Jail records confirm two charges against him. The first is a federal charge for making a terroristic threat against a public figure. The second charge involves possession of a controlled substance.

For the threat charge, Herrera faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Sentencing to Be Decided

A federal judge will determine Herrera’s sentencing at a later date. Until then, he remains in custody as the case moves forward through the court system.

This case highlights how threats made online, even in social media posts, are taken seriously by federal authorities, especially when directed at a sitting or former president.
