Hammer Wielding Woman Leads Police on Wild High Speed Chase from St Johns County to Jacksonville Causing Chaos on I 95
A Pursuit That Started with Speeding and Ended in Dramatic Arrest
An ordinary traffic stop attempt turned into a dangerous and high-speed pursuit that stretched from St. Johns County into the heart of Jacksonville, bringing I-95 traffic to a standstill. The suspect, a woman in her 30s, allegedly refused to pull over for speeding and reckless driving, escalating the situation by swerving toward pursuing deputies and waving a hammer out of her window.
Speeds Soaring Past 100 Miles Per Hour
As the chase intensified, the pursuit reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Officers followed the suspect north on I-95, cutting through Southside and downtown Jacksonville. At one point, the woman attempted to ram law enforcement vehicles, creating further danger for officers and other drivers.
The chase took an even riskier turn when her vehicle collided with a civilian’s car on the Fuller Warren Bridge. Fortunately, the civilian driver escaped without injury, but the incident added to the already perilous nature of the pursuit.
A Tactical Maneuver Brings the Chase to an End
The chase finally came to a halt near the Trout River Bridge, far north of the county line. Around 3:05 p.m., an officer executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, forcing the suspect’s vehicle to stop. Officers quickly moved in, bringing the tense pursuit to a safe conclusion and taking the woman into custody.
Traffic Delays and Weather Complications
The aftermath of the chase caused significant delays in both directions on I-95. Adding to the gridlock, severe weather in the area further slowed traffic. Authorities worked to direct drivers to alternate routes, but congestion persisted until lanes gradually reopened later in the afternoon.
Medical Check and Criminal Charges
Following her arrest, the woman was evaluated for injuries, with no serious harm reported. She now faces multiple felony charges in both St. Johns County and Duval County. The investigation into her actions — from the initial traffic stop to the dangerous chase across county lines — remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Advisory
Officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity. Law enforcement continues to review the events that led to the initial attempted stop and the dangerous pursuit that followed. Drivers are urged to remain cautious when traveling through areas where traffic incidents have recently occurred and to follow directions from officers on the scene.
