Chicago Police Search for Aramark Worker After UI Health Shooting



Chicago police are actively searching for an Aramark employee accused of shooting two people.

According to a statement, the employee, identified as Glenn Rhymes, was involved in a verbal altercation with a patient on Monday morning in the lobby of the OCC South Tower at UI Health.

During the incident, Rhymes allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened the patient, according to UI Health.

UI Health Security and UIC Police responded immediately. Rhymes was taken into custody by UIC Police, and the firearm was recovered. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the initial confrontation.

Following his release from custody, Rhymes allegedly shot two individuals at a residence. One of the victims is also employed by Aramark at UI Health. Rhymes remains at large.

The Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation.

“UIC Police have set up an Incident Command at UI Health. We have tightened access to UI Health facilities and additional UIC Police are posted at UI Health,” the statement read.

In a Tuesday evening update, UIC Police reported that Rhymes had been charged with three misdemeanor offenses prior to his release on Monday, July 21. His Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card was also revoked.

The charges were Concealed Carry Act – Entering a Prohibited Place, Disorderly Conduct – Breach of Peace, and Aggravated Assault – Firearm.
