Teen Girl Wounded by Gunfire That Pierced South Side Home in Chicago
A 17-year-old girl was injured Thursday afternoon after gunfire from outside a residence struck her while she was inside a home in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:33 p.m. on July 11, 2024, in the 7600 block of South Lowe Avenue, where police say someone outside opened fire on the home, and a bullet penetrated the structure, hitting the teen.
She was shot in the thigh and immediately transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition. Despite the alarming nature of the shooting, the injury was not life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to determine who was responsible for the shooting and whether the house or the victim was specifically targeted.
The Gresham neighborhood has experienced several incidents involving gun violence in recent months, sparking renewed concerns among residents about public safety and stray bullet shootings, which have endangered innocent lives inside their own homes.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
