New York City Holds On to Umbrellas as Scattered Showers Linger Before Sunny Weekend
If you were hoping to stash away that umbrella this week, not so fast. While the heaviest rain may be behind us, the skies aren’t quite ready to clear out just yet. The Tri-State area saw its wettest day of the week on Wednesday, and although the downpours are easing, scattered showers will continue to come and go through Saturday.
Thursday starts off on a calmer note. Morning commuters can expect dry roads but also thick fog blanketing parts of the region. It won’t be a total washout, but by afternoon and evening, a few light to moderate showers could roll through. Think of it as umbrella-optional weather — better to have it and not need it.
Heading into Friday and Saturday, the pattern remains the same: mostly dry early in the day with the potential for spotty showers later on. A few of these may carry some thunder, though any storm activity is expected to be brief and isolated.
Good news for baseball fans — the much-anticipated Subway Series kicks off Friday, and while a rogue shower might drift through during the first two games, rain delays are unlikely. A cap or poncho might come in handy, but there's no need to cancel plans. By Sunday, the weather clears up significantly, setting the stage for a bright and pleasant Game 3.
Overall, rainfall totals will remain under an inch across the region. The Hudson Valley might see slightly higher amounts, but even there, it should be manageable. Thankfully, the showers have been spaced out enough to prevent flooding — the ground has had plenty of time to soak in the moisture without becoming waterlogged.
As May continues to live up to its soggy reputation, the silver lining is that clearer skies are just around the corner. So keep that umbrella close for now, but with each passing day, we're stepping closer to sunnier, drier weather.
