BrahMos Missile Production Set to Launch in Lucknow Marking a Major Leap in India’s Defence Power

India is set to take a significant stride in defence manufacturing with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art BrahMos missile production facility in Lucknow on May 11. This move comes at a crucial time, as regional tensions remain high, and reflects the country's commitment to self-reliance and strategic preparedness.

The new facility will manufacture the BrahMos, known as the world’s fastest and most powerful supersonic cruise missile. With an annual target of producing 80 to 100 missiles, the plant positions Uttar Pradesh as a key player in India’s defence sector. The project, backed by a ₹300 crore investment, will be officially inaugurated by the Defence Minister and is expected to significantly strengthen the country’s missile production capabilities.

Developed under the ambitious Defence Industrial Corridor initiative, the plant forms part of a broader push to turn India into a global hub for defence manufacturing. The corridor spans six strategic locations across Uttar Pradesh — Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot — and is aimed at encouraging investment in advanced defence technology.

Nearly 80 acres of land in Lucknow have been allocated specifically for the BrahMos facility. In total, 117 hectares in the Lucknow node have been earmarked for defence-related industries, with 12 companies already on board. Among them is Aerolloy Technologies, whose components have featured in prestigious national missions such as Chandrayaan and in the production of fighter aircraft.

Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPIEDA), the nodal agency overseeing the project, emphasized the significance of this development. They revealed ongoing talks with major defence players and highlighted the state’s growing role in national security.

The BrahMos unit is not just a symbol of India’s advancing technological capabilities — it’s also the first facility of its kind in the state, representing a fusion of innovation, industry, and strategic intent. As production begins, Lucknow is poised to become a central hub in India’s defence manufacturing landscape.
