Dubai-Origin Gold Seized in Major Bust
A Delhi-based man was arrested at a toll plaza on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway for possessing gold worth ₹8.09 crore, allegedly smuggled from Dubai. The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Lucknow.
The suspect, identified as Sohan Goel from Karol Bagh, Delhi, was intercepted while driving an SUV with a Lucknow registration. During the search, authorities found 10 kg of gold and 1 kg of jewelry hidden in a compartment under the vehicle’s seat. Sohan was unable to provide documentation for the gold and was immediately taken into custody.
Further investigations revealed that Sohan was planning to deliver the gold to Vrindavan Jewellers in Lucknow's Telibagh area. However, the shop owners had fled before the DRI team arrived.
The investigation is ongoing, and Sohan will be remanded for further questioning to determine the source and intended distribution of the smuggled gold.
