Caught After Two Decades The Man Who Vanished After a Murder in 2003 is Finally Behind Bars
In a stunning twist that feels straight out of a crime thriller, a man who disappeared 22 years ago after allegedly committing a murder has finally been caught — not in some remote hideout, but in the heart of Delhi, selling ice cream and working construction jobs under a false identity.
Back in 2003, the quiet neighborhood of Sabarmati in Ahmedabad was shaken by the brutal killing of a young man named Prakash Jamod. He was attacked with a dagger, allegedly by Anil Soni, now 46 years old, who had a personal motive rooted in a complex love triangle.
The story dates back to the early 2000s when Anil's family had proposed a match between him and a woman — his sister-in-law's younger sister. However, during her stay in Ahmedabad, she fell in love with Prakash instead. She moved in with him, and this rejection deeply angered Anil, who had by then come to work as a painter in the city.
Fueled by resentment, Anil, along with his friend Suresh Rathod, reportedly confronted Prakash on a road near Chandlodia on February 3, 2003. A fight broke out, ending with Prakash fatally stabbed. Anil vanished that very day.
What followed was a life on the run. Anil shifted identities and jobs frequently — sometimes working as a mason, other times selling fruit or ice cream in various parts of Delhi. He lived in disguise, never staying in one place for too long, successfully evading the law for over two decades.
But time finally ran out. Acting on a tip, a team from Ahmedabad's Zone-2 Crime Branch tracked Anil to Delhi. After days of surveillance and posing as laborers themselves, the officers confirmed his identity and moved in. He was brought back to Ahmedabad, where justice had been waiting for 22 years.
This dramatic arrest brings a long-awaited closure to a case that had faded from public memory — a reminder that sometimes, even after decades, the law catches up.
