Police Guard Found Dead with Bullet Wound, Investigation Underway

A police guard was discovered dead with a gunshot wound on the premises of the City Civil Court in Kolkata’s Dalhousie area early Wednesday morning (February 5, 2025). Authorities are thoroughly investigating the case, considering all possibilities, including suicide and foul play.

The deceased, identified as Gopal Nath, was in his 30s and was found seated near the ground-floor staircase of the court building around 7 a.m. He sustained a fatal bullet wound to the forehead, and his 9mm service pistol was located beside him, officials confirmed.

Law enforcement officials have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. While initial reports suggest the possibility of suicide, other scenarios are also being explored. "We are looking into all possible angles, including murder," a senior police officer stated.

Preliminary findings indicate that Nath had been struggling with depression in recent times, which may have contributed to the tragic event.
