Woman Fatally Attacked Outside Popular Kolkata Eatery as Three Suspects Are Arrested

Kolkata witnessed a horrifying crime on Thursday evening when a young woman was brutally attacked and fatally stabbed outside a well-known eatery on the city's eastern outskirts. The victim, identified as Rofiya Saquil, was in her 20s and a resident of Narkeldanga.

According to police reports, Saquil was forcibly removed from a car near the restaurant and pursued before being viciously assaulted. The attackers, including a minor, were apprehended shortly after the incident, and her body was sent for an autopsy.

Suspected Motive Behind the Crime

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have been linked to an alleged extramarital affair. Authorities suspect that Mohammed Fahrukh Ansari’s family members orchestrated the assault, believing he was involved with the victim.

Eyewitnesses stated that the tragic event unfolded around 8:30 PM when Saquil arrived at the eatery near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in the Pragati Maidan area, accompanied by Ansari. Soon after, she was dragged from the vehicle and repeatedly stabbed, primarily in the neck. The primary assailant, identified as Ansari’s teenage son, was reportedly assisted by his mother and a 22-year-old man.

Investigators discovered that the attackers had been tracking Ansari’s movements through a GPS device in his car, indicating that the crime was premeditated.

Victim’s Desperate Plea for Help

Onlookers at the restaurant described a terrifying scene, as Saquil, covered in blood, ran frantically, screaming for assistance. However, the attackers pursued her relentlessly, pinning her against a wall where they continued their assault.

Following the attack, she was rushed to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to excessive blood loss around 2 AM on Friday.

Key Suspect on the Run

Authorities have confirmed that Ansari, who is now absconding, was married to the victim. Saquil was also married to another man. Investigators are actively searching for Ansari as part of their ongoing probe.

The victim’s family expressed shock over the incident, stating that they were unaware of her relationship with Ansari. "We were informed about the attack late at night. She had visited her parents’ home, and we had no idea about her meeting with him," a relative said.
