Prince Albert II Inaugurates Modernized Monaco Police Headquarters in La Condamine Following Historic Four-Storey Vertical Expansion
A Technological and Architectural Triumph in Monaco's Historic Heart
LA CONDAMINE, Monaco — In a momentous milestone for sovereign security, institutional modernization, and high-density urban engineering, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, accompanied by the Minister of State, government ministers, and high-ranking judicial authorities, has officially inaugurated the fully modernized and enlarged Monaco Police Headquarters (Direction de la Sûreté Publique). Situated on Rue Suffren Reymond in the dense urban fabric of the La Condamine district, the multi-million-euro project represents one of the most sophisticated vertical engineering achievements in the history of the Principality.
Executed without ever interrupting active police, emergency response, or border surveillance operations, the civil project added four brand-new vertical floors atop the existing occupied complex, expanding the total usable floor area from 5,600 square metres to more than 9,400 square metres. Designed by Monegasque architectural practice Square Architecte (Fabrice Notari) and constructed under the supervision of the Department of Public Works, the transformed headquarters provides Monaco’s 600-strong police force with world-class facilities tailored to contemporary public safety demands.
State-of-the-Art Command and Operational Supervision Centre (CSCO)
At the technical core of the modernized headquarters is the newly commissioned Command and Operational Supervision Centre (CSCO – Centre de Supervision et de Commandement Opérationnel). The nerve center features an expansive, high-resolution curved video wall that integrates feeds from Monaco's nationwide network of more than 1,000 high-definition optical and thermal CCTV cameras, automated license plate readers (ALPR), and acoustic incident sensors, ensuring rapid emergency deployment across all nine districts.
The facility houses integrated emergency call dispatchers for Police Rescue (17) and European Emergency Services (112), operating alongside advanced cybercrime detection and digital forensics laboratories. Specialist technical investigators are equipped with state-of-the-art forensic mobile extraction software, encrypted communications grids, and ballistic analysis equipment, enabling Monegasque law enforcement to coordinate seamlessly with international agencies including Interpol and Europol.
Enhanced Public Reception, Training Dojo, and Modernized Forensic Services
Prioritizing civic accessibility and victim assistance, the ground-floor public entrance has been completely redesigned with an open, luminous reception atrium, private consultation rooms for sensitive citizen reports, and barrier-free access compliant with universal mobility standards. Dedicated specialized reception suites have been established to handle juvenile protection, victims of domestic violence, and administrative identity and residency documentation with complete confidentiality.
The vertical expansion introduces world-class physical and tactical training infrastructure for police personnel on upper tiers, including a professional 150-square-metre martial arts dojo, dynamic tactical training suites, simulated firearms training simulators, and modern conference auditoriums. In addition, the building provides fully modernized, air-conditioned judicial custody cells built to the highest European human rights and correctional standards.
Pioneering Mediterranean Green Building Certification and Solar Decarbonization
In strict accordance with Prince Albert II’s statutory directives on sustainable development and carbon neutrality, the transformed Police Headquarters achieved the prestigious Bâtiments Durables Méditerranéens (BDM) Silver certification. Despite the constraints of building atop a live urban site, the structural framework utilized low-carbon concrete, recycled structural steel, and high-performance double-glazed acoustic curtain walls that reduce external energy demand.
The building’s rooftop features a 120-square-metre solar thermal and photovoltaic array that supplies hot water and renewable electricity to the facility, complemented by connection to Monaco’s pioneering thalassothermal district seawater energy network. Government ministers and civic leaders underscored that the new headquarters stands as an enduring emblem of Monegasque excellence—marrying advanced security technology, human dignity, and environmental stewardship to safeguard the Principality for future generations.
