Prince Albert II Celebrates €55 Million Revitalization of Iconic Café de Paris Monte-Carlo and Amazonico at Place du Casino
A Masterpiece of Heritage Restoration and Modern Elegance in Monte-Carlo
MONTE-CARLO, Monaco — Presiding over a momentous civic and cultural celebration in the Principality of Monaco, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, alongside Stéphane Valeri, Chairman and CEO of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), have officially inaugurated the grand reopening of the world-renowned Café de Paris Monte-Carlo. Representing a two-year, €55 million architectural revitalization, the iconic brasserie situated on the legendary Place du Casino has been reimagined as a multi-level showcase of Monegasque hospitality, haute cuisine, and luxury commerce.
Dating back to 1868, the Café de Paris stands as the beating social heart of the Principality. The comprehensive transformation, masterminded by acclaimed Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi and Alain-Charles Perrot (Chief Architect of Historic Monuments in France), meticulously preserves the establishment's cherished Belle Époque soul while introducing contemporary structural volumes, soaring glass atriums, and panoramic terraces overlooking the Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Hôtel de Paris.
Double-Height Brasserie, Stained Glass Artistry, and Chic Boutiques
The reborn establishment welcomes diners across a majestic two-tiered restaurant space spanning nearly 1,000 square meters. The ground floor features a vibrant, historic bistro ambiance with checkered mosaic marble floors, restored stained-glass windows depicting seasonal allegories, polished brass fixtures, and plush red velvet banquet seating. The newly created mezzanine floor offers an intimate dining experience anchored by an imposing monumental zinc-and-marble bar, bespoke blown-glass chandeliers, and open-air loggias that provide front-row vistas of Monte-Carlo's luxury car parade.
Enhancing the venue’s international commercial prestige, the building’s perimeter along the Allée François Blanc has been transformed into a prime luxury retail promenade. Seven flagship high-jewelry and horology boutiques—including Tiffany & Co., Chopard, TAG Heuer, and Arije—occupy luminous glass storefronts, generating substantial commercial revenues and drawing discerning international visitors to the heart of the Golden Square (Carré d'Or).
Spectacular 1,000m² Amazonico Rooftop Terrace and Tropical Gastronomy
Crowning the top of the complex is the breathtaking Monegasque debut of Amazonico Monte-Carlo, a dramatic 1,000-square-meter rooftop dining sanctuary designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Blending lush botanical green foliage, natural warm timbers, and exotic tribal motifs, the rooftop offers a sensory blend of Brazilian, Latin American, and Asian Nikkei gastronomy paired with live jazz and resident DJs.
The rooftop’s panoramic terrace delivers an unmatched 360-degree vista sweeping across the Mediterranean Sea, the Rock of Monaco, and the sun-drenched facade of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. With its dedicated speakeasy lounge, outdoor cocktail bars, and retractable glazed pergolas engineered for year-round dining, Amazonico elevates Monte-Carlo’s nightlife and culinary reputation to new global heights.
Thalassothermal Seawater Energy Integration and Environmental Excellence
Aligned with Prince Albert II’s rigorous environmental transition policies and SBM’s sustainable development charter, the entire complex was reconstructed to strict BREEAM Excellent sustainability standards. The building’s heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems are directly connected to Monaco's pioneering thalassothermal seawater heat pump loop network, operated by Société Monégasque de l'Électricité et du Gaz (SMEG).
By harnessing the clean, renewable thermal energy of the Mediterranean Sea, the building reduces its primary energy consumption by over 40 percent and avoids dozens of tonnes of carbon emissions each year. Combined with smart LED illumination, acoustic double-glazed thermal curtain walls, and zero single-use plastic protocols across all kitchen operations, the transformed Café de Paris Monte-Carlo stands as a shining beacon of sustainable luxury and enduring Monegasque prestige.
