The arrival of the new Siemens fleet anchors the multi-billion-pound Deep Tube Upgrade Programme, engineered to expand peak-hour train frequency from 24 to 27 trains per hour across the 71-kilometre corridor. This operational enhancement provides an additional 23 percent passenger capacity—allowing the Piccadilly line to comfortably transport an extra 20,000 commuters per hour between Cockfosters, the West End, and western terminals at Heathrow Airport and Uxbridge.

Equipped with regenerative braking, lightweight aluminum body shells, and aerodynamic car profiles, the next-generation trains consume 20 percent less energy than their predecessors. TfL is simultaneously modernizing track circuits, signaling infrastructure, and depot facilities at Northfields and Cockfosters to support intensive around-the-clock service.
