A Decisive €67.9 Million Investment to Upgrade Regional Cross-Border Mobility

LA CONDAMINE, Monaco — Demonstrating an unwavering dedication to sustainable regional transport and civic quality of life, the Prince’s Government of Monaco, under the high guidance of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has formalized a major €67.9 million capital financing agreement with the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) Regional Council and SNCF to purchase four brand-new, high-capacity double-decker TER Omneo trainsets. The modern passenger trainsets are slated to enter commercial service to enable 10-minute train intervals during morning and evening rush hours between Nice, Monaco, and Menton.

The rolling stock procurement forms an indispensable pillar of the Principality's mobility master plan, engineered to absorb the travel demands of more than 50,000 cross-border commuters who enter Monaco daily, thereby drastically mitigating vehicular tailpipe emissions and bumper-to-bumper congestion along coastal cliffside corniches.

Advancing the Ambitious €1.2 Billion 'La Brasca' Underground Transit Link

In tandem with heavy rail enhancements, Monaco’s Department of Urban Amenities is accelerating technical feasibility, structural borehole drilling, and environmental assessments for the €1.2 billion 'La Brasca' underground express transit project. The visionary infrastructure design features an automated subterranean rail shuttle connecting a high-capacity park-and-ride terminal located between Èze and La Turbie on the A8 autoroute directly into Monaco’s central underground rail hub.

By intercepting up to 10,000 incoming private vehicles every day at the French border, La Brasca is engineered to eliminate cross-border automotive gridlock, safeguard pedestrian safety, and drastically improve air quality throughout the Principality's densely built urban core.

Strategic Territorial Master Planning and National Housing Plan Milestones

In the National Council, the Prince's Government formally tabled Bill n°1126 (Projet de loi n°1126), introducing the Master Plan for Development and Urban Planning (Schéma Directeur de Développement et d’Aménagement - SDDA). The comprehensive statutory framework sets long-term planning criteria for land use, public amenities, and infrastructure resilience across Monaco's compact 2.1-square-kilometre territory.

Meanwhile, the State Housing Commission marked significant progress under the National Housing Plan by allocating 156 high-standard state-owned apartments to Monegasque nationals, including 49 residences in Block A of the flagship Héméra complex. A revamped allocation methodology is scheduled for rollout to streamline application turnaround times and better accommodate family preferences.

To promote seamless mobility during major autumn events such as the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show, the Prince's Government renewed its zero-emission incentive by offering 100% free bus transit across the entire Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM) network. Backed by expanding hybrid and battery-electric fleets, the fare-free transit initiative encouraged tens of thousands of residents and global delegates to choose clean public transport.
