Transport for London Unveils Consultation on 18-Kilometer Orbital Overground Route

LONDON, United Kingdom — Transport for London (TfL) has launched an eight-week statutory public consultation on proposals for a new 18.5-kilometer orbital London Overground passenger route linking Hendon in north London to Hounslow in west London via existing railway freight alignments.

The initiative, developed in partnership with Network Rail and local borough councils, seeks to repurpose the historic Dudding Hill freight corridor. If constructed, the line will provide direct orbital connections across suburban boroughs without forcing commuters to route into congested central London rail terminals.

Proposed plans detail up to seven newly constructed and refurbished stations, including strategic interchange hubs at Old Oak Common, Neasden, and Brent Cross West. The orbital service would unlock rapid transit accessibility for major regeneration zones, including thousands of planned net-zero homes in the Park Royal and Brent Cross development areas.

Transit analysts project that introducing regular passenger service along the line will remove an estimated 25,000 daily car journeys from outer London's ring roads, substantially improving local air quality in alignment with TfL's newly updated Corporate Environment Plan.

The public consultation period runs through late November 2026, offering residents, transit advocacy groups, and business improvement districts an open forum to review proposed station locations, service frequencies, and acoustic environmental protections.
