San Antonio Drive-By Shooting Leaves Man Hospitalized at South Side Apartment Complex

Police investigate gunfire reported near apartment complex pool party

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 24-year-old man was hospitalized early Friday after a drive-by shooting at a South Side apartment complex, where witnesses told police a pool party had been taking place before shots were fired toward the area.

The shooting was reported at about 4 a.m. Friday in the 6400 block of South New Braunfels Avenue, near Clark Avenue, according to a preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department.

Responding officers found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his lower body, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where authorities described his injuries as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the wounded man told officers that someone in an unidentified vehicle fired in the direction of the area where he had been sitting. Witnesses gave detectives a similar account, saying a vehicle entered the apartment complex property and a person inside the vehicle fired shots toward the pool area.

Police did not say how many shots were fired, whether other people were struck or whether any property was damaged. No additional injuries were reported in the preliminary information released Friday morning.

The San Antonio drive-by shooting occurred at a time when residents and guests were gathered at the complex, underscoring the potential danger of gunfire in crowded residential settings. Police routinely rely on witness accounts, physical evidence and any available surveillance video to identify vehicles and shooters in cases where suspects leave before officers arrive.

Authorities had not released a description of the shooter, the vehicle or a possible motive. It was also unclear whether the injured man was the intended target or whether the gunfire was directed generally toward the pool gathering.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests or suspect information had been announced as of Friday.
