Andrew Rene Ojeda Sought After San Antonio Pursuit Ends in Crash Near Lackland

Texas DPS continues search after suspect fled on foot

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were searching Wednesday afternoon for 18-year-old Andrew Rene Ojeda, who authorities said ran from his vehicle after a pursuit on San Antonio's far West Side ended in a crash near Lackland Air Force Base.

The pursuit began at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday as DPS assisted a joint law-enforcement operation involving the agency's Criminal Investigations Division and the FBI. According to a DPS statement, officers were attempting to arrest Ojeda on multiple state and federal warrants connected to alleged drug and firearm offenses.

A DPS trooper tried to stop Ojeda's vehicle near Potranco Road and Loop 1604, but Ojeda did not pull over, the agency said. Troopers then began a pursuit that continued onto the eastbound access road of U.S. Highway 90.

During the chase, DPS said Ojeda crashed into another vehicle, lost control and struck a perimeter fence along Lackland Air Force Base. His vehicle came to a stop a short distance later, and he fled on foot near U.S. Highway 90 and Loop 410.

Nearby schools briefly placed in secure status

Authorities notified several nearby campuses as a precaution while officers searched the area. Mary Burns Michael Elementary School, Fisher Elementary School and IDEA Ambrose & Freda Robinson were placed in a secure status, DPS said. The restrictions were later lifted.

No injuries were reported in the crash or the pursuit, according to DPS. The incident nonetheless prompted a substantial response across a busy corridor that links the far West Side with areas around the military installation.

Ojeda is described by DPS as 5 feet 11 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Officials urged members of the public not to try to detain or approach him if they believe they see him.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Ojeda had not been located and the search remained ongoing. DPS asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 210-531-2284.
