Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Dan Ryan Expressway Claims One Life
One person died and two others sustained critical injuries in a tragic five-vehicle accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, Illinois on Friday evening. According to the Illinois State Police, the incident occurred when a southbound driver entered the northbound lanes of I-94 near 31st Street and subsequently collided with multiple vehicles about three miles south of the entrance, near Garfield Boulevard, at approximately 5:50 p.m.
The impact of the collision resulted in one individual being pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to local hospitals in critical condition, confirmed a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department.
As a result of the incident, northbound traffic on the expressway was diverted off at 67th Street, causing significant delays and disruption in the area. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving, a concerning occurrence that highlights ongoing issues with roadway safety in the region.
