Yankees Embrace Seven-Game Stay in Chicago This Summer

The New York Yankees are making the most of their week-long stay in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America, where they will play a total of seven games against the White Sox and Cubs. Manager Aaron Boone expressed his delight, saying, "I’m using the drawers at the hotel. I like that part of it." This marks a rare occurrence for major-league teams, as it is uncommon to play consecutive series in the same city.

For the Yankees, the week includes four games at Guaranteed Rate Field against the White Sox, followed by three games at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. Boone noted the appeal of spending an entire week in a city known for its vibrant summer atmosphere. "There’s worse places to be than Chicago in the summer for a week," he remarked.

Shortstop Anthony Volpe mentioned that the team has been looking forward to this trip since the schedule was released, highlighting the excitement within the clubhouse. Outfielder Spencer Jones, who has been flipping between the Yankees and their Triple-A affiliate, echoed that sentiment. “You get to play two good teams in a great city, especially in the summertime,” he shared. “People know that there’s good energy here, great food. Historic city. The river, the lake. There’s few places in America that I’ve heard are as nice in the summer.”

Long-time Yankees commentator Michael Kay chimed in, calling Chicago his second-favorite city, right after New York. He praised the city's walkability and atmosphere, stating, “It couldn’t be better to have seven days here.” Right-hander Cam Schlittler is also soaking in the experience, looking forward to visiting Wrigley for the first time, despite having faced the White Sox earlier in the week. “It’s a great experience to go there for the first time and take it all in,” he stated, as he relished being in Chicago.

The unique situation of playing consecutive road games in the same city stands out, especially since it is a rarity in baseball, with Chicago and New York being the only cities where this is technically possible. Kay noted the convenience of unpacking fully without needing to repack shortly after arrival. “Now you unpack everything; everything’s hung up. It’s like you’re home, and it’s home for seven days. It’s pretty neat,” he said.
