Authorities have charged 38-year-old Donny Benedict with murder following the discovery of 41-year-old Vera Pitulic's body in her car along Interstate 35E on July 21. Friends reported Pitulic missing on July 20 after not hearing from her for several days. An arrest affidavit indicates that Pitulic and Benedict were last seen together at a pool party two days prior, where they reportedly argued over accusations of infidelity.

Initially, Benedict denied having seen Pitulic, but after police presented video evidence of their presence at the party, he admitted they had an argument but claimed they parted ways afterward. Evidence collected from Benedict's home has linked him to the crime.

Pitulic, a long-term substitute teacher with Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, was remembered by her family as a victim of domestic violence. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist in bringing her home for burial. The district expressed condolences to her family, friends, and coworkers.

Benedict is currently being held at the Collin County jail. Online records indicate he has a prior arrest related to domestic violence. The investigation continues as authorities emphasize the ongoing issue of domestic violence in the community.
