Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long and Family Killed in Flash Flood Near Bicknell, Utah

Five members of a family, including Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long, his wife Katrina, and their three sons, were killed in a flash flood while hiking near Bicknell, Utah, on Friday. The family had arrived at Sunglow Campground for a day trip when heavy rains caused the flooding, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. A daughter who was not on the trip survived.

Authorities recovered the bodies of the victims late Friday and Saturday after a young male was found in the flood wash. The Provo Fire Department confirmed the identities of the victims and expressed their condolences, stating they are heartbroken over the loss. A GoFundMe page established for the Long family's surviving daughter, Lydia, has raised over $184,000 to support her following this tragedy.

Multiple agencies, including Sevier County Search and Rescue and the Utah Highway Patrol, assisted in the recovery efforts. The sheriff's office warned that dangerous conditions were present in the area due to the heavy rain and flooding.
