Julie Goforth, a 63-year-old retired schoolteacher from Long Beach, was discovered deceased in a remote area of the Mojave Desert on Thursday, six days after she went missing while riding her dirt bike. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that the investigation into the circumstances of her death is ongoing.

Goforth was last seen on Friday in the El Mirage Dry Lake Off Highway Recreation Area near Adelanto. She had separated from a friend while attempting to navigate back to their vehicle. Search efforts involved deputies and volunteers utilizing off-road vehicles, drones, and helicopters, but initial searches did not locate her. Authorities expressed concern for her safety due to high temperatures in the area, which exceeded 100 degrees during the week of her disappearance. Goforth is survived by her daughter and a 2-year-old granddaughter.
