Florida Woman Killed by Alligator While Swimming in Econlockhatchee River

A 31-year-old woman, Brittany Clark, was fatally attacked by a 12-foot alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest on Sunday. Clark was with her boyfriend, Chance Allison, when the incident occurred in just three feet of water. Officials reported that the alligator lunged at Clark, severing both of her arms during the attack.

Allison attempted to rescue Clark, managing to free one of her arms before the alligator clamped down on the other. In a frantic 911 call, he reported that she was losing a significant amount of blood. Despite his efforts to stem the bleeding, Clark succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson Chad Weber confirmed that Clark was bitten on both arms and that her boyfriend was dragged underwater during the struggle. Following the attack, wildlife officials euthanized and decapitated the alligator, retaining its head as evidence.

This tragic incident has drawn attention to the dangers of swimming in areas known to have alligator populations. The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
