Three Firefighters Killed in Snyder Fire on Utah-Colorado Border
Three firefighters lost their lives while battling the Snyder Fire on the Utah-Colorado border on Saturday, as reported by the U.S. Wildland Fire Service. The incident occurred during efforts to contain the wildfire, which has burned approximately 28,000 acres and is currently at 0% containment.
In addition to the fatalities, two firefighters sustained burn injuries and are receiving treatment. The Wildland Fire Service expressed its commitment to supporting the families and colleagues of the deceased firefighters.
The Snyder Fire began in Grand County, Utah, before spreading into Colorado, where it merged with the smaller Jones and Knowles Fires. In response to the situation, Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency on Saturday.
Evacuation warnings have been issued for communities in Mesa County, Colorado, as the fire continues to pose a significant threat. Other wildfires in the region include the Cottonwood Fire, which has spread to about 92,254 acres, and the Iron Fire, covering approximately 41,467 acres with 38% containment.
