Twelve Injured in South Side Chicago Shooting Incident

At least 12 people were shot late Friday in a South Side Chicago neighborhood when an SUV pulled up and two individuals inside opened fire, according to police. The incident left two men in critical condition, one with a gunshot wound to the thigh.

The group of victims, which included eight men and four women aged between 17 and 47, was transported to four different hospitals for treatment. Additionally, another man at the scene sustained unspecified injuries but declined medical assistance.

Police initially responded to reports of a single shooting victim and discovered a woman with two gunshot wounds to her back and a man with four graze wounds. Both were reported to be in fair condition.

Since Friday evening, police reported at least 21 shooting incidents across the city, resulting in four fatalities. The shootings coincided with Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Local advocate Pastor Donovan Price expressed concern over the violence occurring during a day meant for celebration.

Further details regarding the investigation have not been disclosed.
