Two Men Arrested in Shivamogga for Alleged ISIS Conspiracy, Including Mangaluru College Student

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant strides in combating terrorism by arresting two men in Karnataka, India, on suspicion of conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks in support of the Islamic State (ISIS). The suspects, identified as Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh and Huzair Farhan Baig, were taken into custody following extensive searches conducted at six different locations across various districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Davanagere, and Bengaluru.

This case traces back to its origins on September 19, 2022, when it was first registered at the Shivamogga Rural Police Station. As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that the accused had been receiving funds from their ISIS handler through cryptocurrency wallets, which highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by terrorist organizations to finance their activities.

In addition to financial transactions, the investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in arson and had targeted vehicles and other property, indicating a broader intent to incite fear and chaos. The NIA's thorough searches led to the seizure of digital devices and incriminating documents, which are expected to play a critical role in building the case against the suspects and further unraveling their connections to ISIS.

This recent arrest follows the apprehension of two other suspects linked to the same case, demonstrating the NIA's commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and their operations in India. The agency is actively working to disrupt potential attacks and ensure public safety as it continues its investigation into the broader implications of these arrests.

The NIA's actions underscore the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the need for ongoing vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat such plots effectively. As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to provide updates on the findings and any further arrests that may be warranted in connection with this troubling case.
