Unlicensed Security Guard Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Fatal Stone Park Nightclub Shooting
A 35-year-old security guard has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a woman inside a Stone Park nightclub last year. Kevin Henley Jr. entered the plea on Monday in connection with the death of 21-year-old Zulma Calderon Pacheco, according to Cook County court records.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed three felony gun charges against Henley. Cook County Judge Geary Kull sentenced Henley to the three-year term, with credit for more than one year spent on electronic monitoring since his arrest. According to Stone Park police, the shooting occurred just before 1:40 a.m. on March 8, when a fight broke out inside the Mansion Nightclub at 3801 W. Lake St. Police said Henley drew a firearm and fired a single shot, striking Pacheco, who was dancing with her boyfriend and was not involved in the altercation.
Henley's defense attorneys stated he was attempting to stop women from being groped when he was attacked. Henley admitted to carrying the firearm, claiming he did so because armed gang members had threatened him at the club a few days prior. However, police stated Henley was not licensed to work as a security guard or to carry a weapon.
Pacheco's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Henley, Mansion Live, and JMC Security, alleging negligence. The lawsuit claims the venue failed to provide adequate security, failed to properly train and supervise staff, and allowed security to carry and discharge a firearm inside the establishment. Family attorney Tim Cavanagh stated that Henley lacked a required Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card and did not have the 40 hours of training mandated by Illinois law.
